Exploring Halifax: Day 2

Ok, so we had a change of plans today and did not go to get a NS driver's license, but we DID get to the waterfront, and spent most of our day there. We started out at noon today, and made our way down South street until we got to Barrington, near the waterfront. There was a cruise ship in today, so the area was bustling with tourists.

We then made our way down Barrington street, which is right in the downtown of Halifax, close to the waterfront. We had a destination in mind: Mountain Equipment Co-op. Evan had forgotten where it was, but then we stumbled across it, and he was totally smitten with the 2-level, majorly air conditioned store.

After leaving the store, where Jackie purchased a tank top to help battle this heatwave, and Evan vowed to go online and buy a bike fender, we continued on our journey and ended up down on the wharf. There were buskers everywhere (and tourists), but we were determined to get to see Jackie's favourite part of the wharf: Theodore Tugboat. (Jackie has already seen it with Mum Phinney and Ally a few days prior, but Evan needed to experience the cuteness).

Evan thinks that Theodore is "neato"
We wanted to take a picture together in front of Theodore, but Evan didn't trust any of the nearby tourists with his iPhone. Oh well, good thing we got there when we did, because shortly after, Theodore said "Toot Toot!" and took off on the harbour for a tour. We decided that it was too hot to keep going, so we sat in nearby Stayner's Pub and Grill for a bit, and had a drink to cool off. Jackie got the Blues, a really cool cocktail, and Evan got a Guinness (quel surprise). Needless to say, in this heat and with our slight exhaustion, one drink was enough...

We left Staynor's in a bit of a daze, and then just strolled along the wharf, taking in the sights (including a fire breather) and the neat ships.
We then came across a cigar shop, and Evan just had to stop in and purchase a memento. He also bought a nice silver cigar case to keep his new cigar in. Jackie appreciated the awesome air conditioning. After that, we stumbled upon Pier 21, which is Halifax's immigration museum where Jackie hopes to complete her practicum.

And that was our day! We needed to leave this area and make our way back up towards Fenwick Place, to grab some groceries at Sobeys (It's Tuesday, and our magical power of 10% off was valid!). Tomorrow we have our great friend Leah coming for dinner, and we plan to take it easy. Perhaps the NS driver's license will have to wait until Thursday!
