P.E.I. and Meatloaf!

We had such a wonderful Canada Day weekend. It was relaxing and we had a chance to get away, which doesn't happen too often when you are students without a vehicle. We spent the actual day just lounging around Halifax, and decided to go out in the afternoon to get smoothies, sit on a bench and watch some crazies pass by with their red and white shirts and festive hats. That night we were also treated to the awesome fireworks spectacle in Dartmouth from our bedroom window, but unfortunately didn't get any photos because we had been in bed before they went off (hey, we're training for a race here...)

Come Saturday we were ready to rock! We picked up our rental car at 9am, and were on the road by 9:30. Once we arrived on the island, we had lunch with our good friends the Moores (who blog HERE), who are expecting their first baby in November! It was exciting to catch up with them, and get to feel Bec's growing bump (Note: Jackie was the one doing the feeling...)

After lunch, we went to the hotel to meet up with Ma and Pa Logan. After lounging around for a while, it was time to make our way to the concert site. So now that I've jabbered on enough, here are some shots from the concert:

This is where we stood for the entire show

Mom was a dancin' fool that night! (Excuse the tired looks on our faces...it was hot)

Evan stayed back and listened from afar because he said it was "too loud for comfort"

Dad doesn't like photography...

Meatloaf, or "Meat" as he claims people call him, did two encores after an awesome closing rendition of "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". We were all dance machines, and left feeling like we had had an amazing time!

Driving home the next day, we took our time and explored the island a bit. We did a bit of antique shopping (and found some wonderful Christmas presents for a certain couple of family members...), and one of the shops we stopped at can be seen below:

We decided to take our time driving back to Halifax, because we had the car for the day and never get to take advantage of wheels! After leaving the island, we stopped in Aulac for lunch/gas. We had planned to have lunch at the Irving Big Stop, but it was packed solid, so we ventured across the street to a little German restaurant that ended up being really great!
We loved the stein collection!
Anticipating the fresh sausage burger!
After lunch we took the coastal route back through Eastern Nova Scotia, along the Sunrise trail. We drove through the mountains at Wentworth Valley, and got some pretty shots from the car

And then we came home! We were exhausted, but had a total blast and appreciated the chance to get away. We hope to make weekend excursions a more regular thing during our summers, because they make the work week go much faster.

Peace, love and schnitzel,

The Hali-Phinneys
